Ages 6 to 18 · Hazel Grove, Stockport

Join 1st Hazel Grove

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers for young people aged 6 to 18. We’re a friendly, welcoming group, always looking for new members. Find the right section for your child and send us an enquiry.

Which section is right for your child?

Scouting is split into sections by age, and young people move up as they get older. Beavers and Cubs each have two groups (two Beaver Colonies and two Cub Packs) that meet on different nights, so you can tell us which night would suit your family.

Not sure? Enter your child’s month and year of birth in the form below and we’ll show you which section fits.

Where we meet

All our sections meet at The Methodist Church, Wesley Street, Hazel Grove, Stockport, SK7 4JQ.

Questions parents ask

What ages are the sections?

Our sections are for young people aged 6 to 18:

  • Beavers: ages 6–8
  • Cubs: ages 8–10½
  • Scouts: ages 10½–14
  • Explorers: ages 14–18

Young people move up to the next section as they get older.

Where and when do you meet?

All our sections meet at The Methodist Church, Wesley Street, Hazel Grove, Stockport, SK7 4JQ (see it on Google Maps (opens in a new tab)).

Each section publishes a termly programme. If a meeting is somewhere else or at a different time, the section emails parents through Online Scout Manager.

How much does it cost?

Subscriptions and event payments are handled through Online Scout Manager. Your section leader will explain the current subscription and how to pay when your child joins.

The Scouts say that “no one should be excluded from Scouts because of cost”. If cost is a worry, please talk to your section leader or email contact@1hg.org in confidence.

For an idea of typical costs nationally, see the Scouts’ uniform and costs page (opens in a new tab).

What about uniform?

All members wear the standard Scout uniform for their section. Your section leader will let you know exactly what’s needed when your child joins.

The section programme shows which nights are full uniform, necker only or no uniform.

The Scouts’ uniform and costs page (opens in a new tab) has more about uniform and typical costs.

Is there a waiting list?

When we reply to your enquiry, we’ll let you know about places in the section you’re interested in and what happens next.

For Beavers and Cubs, if either night would suit you, choose “any night” in the form.

Can my child come and try it?

Just ask in your enquiry, and we’ll talk about next steps when we reply.

My child has additional needs. Can they join?

Scouts welcomes young people with additional needs. Let us know in your enquiry, or speak to the section leader, so we can talk about how best to support your child. There’s no need to include medical details in the form.

The Scouts have more about Scouts with additional needs (opens in a new tab).

Can I help too?
