100 Years of 1st Hazel Grove

In 1926, Harold Vernon founded our Scout Troop at Wesley Street Methodist Church. One hundred years later, we're still going strong and we're celebrating in style.

2026 is a landmark year for 1st Hazel Grove Scout Group. From our earliest days as a single troop of Patrol Leaders training in January 1926, we've grown into the thriving group we are today. With Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, and a fantastic team of volunteers, we've been at the heart of scouting in Hazel Grove for a century. We've got a year of celebrations planned and we'd love you to be part of it.

Centenary Family Camp

Our biggest event of the year, the Centenary Family Camp at Linnet Clough is open to all members of the group and their families. Come and help us celebrate a hundred years of scouting in Hazel Grove with campfires, activities, and plenty of stories from the past century.

Keep an eye on our social media and Online Scout Manager for dates and booking details.

Centenary Church Parade

We're holding a special centenary church parade and all members, past and present, are welcome to attend. Whether you were a Beaver in the 2010s or a Scout in the 1970s, we'd love to see you there to help us mark this milestone.

More details will follow as plans are confirmed.

Centenary Badge & Memorabilia

We're producing a special centenary badge for all current members, along with other memorabilia to mark this milestone. These will be available during the year to all members of the group.

Memories & Stories

We're collecting memories, photographs, and stories from anyone who has been part of 1st Hazel Grove over the years. Whether it's a tale from camp, a photo of your investiture, or a memory of a leader who made a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

You can also explore our history page to read about the group's story so far.

Signature Camps & Trips

To mark our centenary, every section is taking part in a special, once-in-a-lifetime camp or trip:

  • Explorers — Interrailing across Europe
  • Scouts — A trip to the Netherlands
  • Cubs — A spectacular camp with adventures in London
  • Beavers — An overnight stay at a theme park

These are adventures our young people will remember for the rest of their lives, and the perfect way to celebrate a hundred years of scouting in Hazel Grove.

Were you part of 1st Hazel Grove?

If you were a member, leader, or supporter at any point in our hundred-year history, we'd love to hear from you. Share your memories or get involved with the celebrations.
