Getting stuck in at Mao Cubs

Mao dates from the 1960s, when there were so many Cubs that one Pack was no longer enough. It first met on Fridays, led by Winnie Davenport, and now meets on Thursdays. It’s for children aged 8 to 10½.

Cubs try their hand at all sorts, from camping and cooking outdoors to science, first aid and team challenges. They work in small groups called Sixes and start to take on more responsibility.

Can’t make Thursdays? Our other Pack, Jacala Cubs, meets on Mondays, 6:45–8:15pm.

What Cubs get up to

  • Camping and cooking outdoors
  • Hikes, games and team challenges
  • Badges in everything from first aid to astronomy
  • Helping plan what the Pack does

Our centenary year

2026 is 1st Hazel Grove’s centenary year. To mark it, each section planned a special camp or trip; for Cubs, a camp with adventures in London.
