On 18th December 2014 Ruth Sykes was presented with her Queen’s Scout Award from the new Scout County Commissioner Steve Holloway. Ruth has been with 1st Hazel Grove pretty much since the day she was born, being the daughter of our Assistant Group Scout Leader Gavin Sykes and the great granddaughter of our founder Harold Vernon.
Ruth was an enthusiastic Beaver, Cub and Scout and then went on to complete her training for her Queen’s Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award whilst a member of our Myrmidon partnered Explorer unit. Over the coming months she is travelling and working on volunteer projects in South East Asia before commencing a degree course at York University in the autumn. We are delighted that Ruth is also committing to training as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader so that she can retain her strong links with the Group and with Mao cub pack in particular.
We wish Ruth every success in her coming adventures!
